PsycheDiversity
My name is Dr. Hilary Maia Grubb. I use she/her and they/them pronouns, and please call me Hilary if you feel comfortable doing so! I believe you are the expert of your own experiences, struggles, and inner resources, and I co-create treatment with clients as equals, each with our own areas of expertise.
I am double boarded-certified in Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, and provide psychotherapy and medication management to folks with a wide variety of mental health concerns. I have extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar spectrum disorders, psychosis, adult ADHD, addictions, and psychiatric illness in the setting of medical comorbidities.
I practice client-centered and trauma-informed care grounded in evidence-based modalities including pharmacology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. My eclectic approach is informed by the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, social justice, harm reduction, Health at Every Size, neurodiversity, and acknowledgement of the complex relationship psychiatry often has with marginalized communities.
My academic and research interests focus on the mental health of LGBTQ+ populations, and I myself identify as queer and genderqueer. I welcome all sexual and gender diversities, including folks who identify as polyamorous and/or participate in the kink, leather, and BDSM communities.
I am based in The Castro neighborhood of San Francisco, CA, which sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, and I pay monthly Yunakin Land Tax. I do not currently have in-person appointments available, but I provide telepsychiatry throughout the week. I look forward to hearing from you!
* Please note: I currently do not accept private insurance, Medicare, or MediCal in my practice. Your insurance provider may show that I am in-network, but I am empaneled for hospital-based care only. However, I do have a sliding scale to ensure that people can access psychiatric care regardless of income. *
